Passing Reflections is the narrative of discovery over the first two years after a son s suicide. The first of a 2-volume set, Meditations on Grief, is the earliest part of this journey in coping with grief and loss. These poems are meant to help other suicide survivors see that they are not alone. It is also meant to help those who would be of service to survivors begin to fathom what it is to suffer traumatic loss. The author s greatest hope is to help people learn how to transform suffering into healing, holding all with compassion.

Lifetimes ago, when I was very young, my mother had a copy of Look Homeward Angel by Dale Evans and she would press that book upon her friends, saying, "Read this-you will love it-it will make you cry". Those were the 50's, simpler times when all our bathrooms were pink and our emotions were all within the primary range of the 17 Crayola box. Even then we had good poets. Frost in charcoal gray and pink, and Ferlingetti in Purple and Orange and Onyx. But there were none like this. There are shades and colors here like you have never imagined. Like a tropical reef or a pasture of wild flowers Madam Spexarth's work touches upon emotions as yet uncatalogued. Sure, it will make you cry and smile, and cry and laugh, and cry and wonder, and cry and remember, and cry and despair, and cry and rage, and cry and soar in transcendence.
It is more than a book of verse. Like Dante, it is a map through an unseen world of unimaginable pain, and unfathomable redemption. It is a map through the dark wood maze of despair that -one way or another sooner or later we must all transit.
If you have suffered a loss you believe you cannot survive - you must read this book. If you own a human heart - you should read it.
